SCOTCH PIE CLUB
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012
& PRODUCT EVALUATIONS
Butchers, Bakers and Piemakers gathered at Carnegie College on Thursday 5th January to find out who were the prizewinners when the lid was lifted on the best pastry products in the country.
Two times World Scotch Pie Champion Boghall butchers couldn’t make it a third win in the 2012 competition but still walked off with a major prize. The only real surprise was that it was for a fish pie! Their Medley of Seafood Pie won that category and was then voted the best savoury product overall.
86 businesses from as far afield as Bolton and Invergordon entered products for evaluation at the judging held at Carnegie College in November. A panel of 20 industry experts and interested foodies tackle the massive task of munching their way through over 400 savoury products.
The new Scotch Pie World Champion is butcher, John G Renicks from Dumfries-shire.

Boghall Butcher’s Slice of Success
Butcher Paul Boyle has proven that when it comes to innovation in sausage production he is up there with the best. The two time World Scotch Pie Champion and holder of
many British titles for his pie making showed he could be equally successful when it comes to making sausage when he was crowned South East Scotland Champion in the 2010 Scottish Sliced Sausage Competition at the Carfraemill Hotel on Monday night.
The judges were retired butchers and interested young foodies, like the sausages a balanced blend! With not a drop of brown sauce or an egg in sight, they savoured Scotland’s finest slices. The competition was organised by Scottish Federation of Meat Traders and the judges knew that it would be all square from the start and it was a mighty meaty job separating the best.
In total Scottish butchers submitted 165 entries for the competition and evaluation held earlier this month at Dunfermline
At the Awards Presentation held in Carfraemill Hotel on Monday night (27/09/10) SFMTA President Stuart Christie said:-
“Own recipe meat products are extremely important in attracting customers to our butchers shops. Some go miles out of their way to hunt down their favourite tastes and Sliced Sausage is such an iconic Scottish product this is the contest everyone wants to win.”
Paul Boyle added a Silver Award in the Sliced Sausage Plus Evaluation for Steak & Ale Sliced Sausage and Uphall butcher John Lawson also won a Silver for his Sliced Sausage with Haggis.
